The 3D Aero Lab is a wind tunnel simulator using a dynamic frontal area measurement to give REAL-TIME feedback on aerodynamics using 3D motion capture technology paired with the motion capture technology.

This allows us to balance the matrix between sustainable posture, reducing aero drag, and maintaining maximum power generation. And in returns it allows riders to understand the performance impact of various riding position plus gear combos and how this can help developing fast race day strategies. It also identifies inefficiency areas in your current setup between pedaling dynamics and optimal aerodynamics

Finally, it removes the guesswork as we fine-tune your position at a lower cost/time than that of wind tunnel testing or other simulators. Plus, you can test various gear setups in a relatively short period of time – i.e. Are narrow elbows pads better? Should I tilt my aero bar extensions or not? Which head position is the fastest? What helmet matches my position best?

Aerodynamic drag accounts for up to 90% of the forces a rider must overcome in order to move forward. From that, up to 75% of the drag comes from the rider’s bike-fit position and up to 25% from the bike itself and wheels.

There are two major components of drag. The first is the frontal area (A) which is what the air sees as you propel your bike forward. The second is drag coefficient (Cd) which represents how aerodynamic your basic shape is through the air. Together, these two components form CdA, which you may have seen on wind tunnel testing charts and marketing material. The key is that the lower the CdA the less drag you need to overcome.

The 3D aero simulator is not a definitive process to obtain Coefficient of Drag (CdA), it’s simply a model to estimate it. But, the value from it comes from educating you as to what position/gear combos may result in the best time savings for your races at a much lower cost & time investment than wind tunnel testing or other simulators.
